Zaisan Memorial

Outside of Ulaan Baatar there was a hill that was dedicated to unknown soliders and heros. It was built by the Russians. We walked up there one day. It was a long walk, which was made much longer by all of the car exhaust and broken sidewalks. When we got there, it was strange to see such a monument still standing. It was a very crowed place. Lenin is still very much revered in Mongolia.

The hill offers romantic views of the city.

Yes! I made it up all those stairs! The breeze felt wonderful.

This shows one of the mosiacs inside the memorial.

The outside of the memorial.

The memorial from the bottom. The tank on the left was part of the Mongolian Tank Brigade during WWII.
